What is it?
Data futurism is required for revolutionary purposes, for naming violence and our truth in particular ways that institutions are designed to erase and destroy. Data often feels distant, cold, respectable, institutionalized, expensive, and antiblack. If data is accessible, feels human, feels like anyone can curate, mine, and create it, then suddenly so many answers, affirmation, and information about ourselves and our communities that we’ve longed for become within our reach as marginalized people. This data matters because the only data that exists about fat people is about shrinking our bodies, medicalizing our fatness, or killing us. The limited data that exists around queer domestic violence doesn't include the widest potential of nuance we can access and name. This data matters because there’s so much nuance and difference in our experiences that we might’ve never known about. This data can be used garner resources, to access healing, but it can also be used as a life saving tool of humanizing ourselves.
